LED-Lit Electric Violin

The Prism is an electric violin whose body lights up thanks to an LED lighting system. This LED system has several preconfigured modes.

The Prism retains the simple and clean design of our electric violins and is equipped with a high-quality pickup.

Illumination

The Prism electric violin integrates dozens of LEDs, allowing it to shine on stage. It offers several lighting modes:

  • Mode 1 – Breath: A color that changes or pulses, simulating breathing.
  • Mode 2 – Pure: A fixed color chosen by the violinist.
  • Mode 3 – Gradient: A progressive and adaptable color gradient controlled by the violinist.
  • Mode 4 – Prism: Multiple blended colors. Lighting inspired by the colors of a prism.
  • Mode 5 – Sound Reactive: An intensity-reactive mode. The lighting responds to what you play. The Prism lights up with greater or lesser brightness depending on your playing intensity.
  • Mode 6 – Color Reactive: A color-reactive mode. The violin reacts and changes colors according to how you play the instrument.
  • Mode 7 – Fire: A mode that simulates the effect of flames.

More modes are under development! Download and update your instrument with our free updates. Connect your instrument via USB to your computer and update it easily.

Sound

Like the Line, the Prism electric violin is equipped with our “S pickup”. It is a very sensitive piezoelectric pickup with excellent sound quality. The power of our pickups eliminates the need for internal preamps. All “S pickups” are manufactured by 3Dvarius.

The sound and LED systems are completely independent to avoid any sound interference.

Customization

The Prism can be painted and customized with our customization service. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

LED Configuration

The LEDs are powered by a 9-volt battery. This battery is used exclusively for the LEDs. We recommend using rechargeable batteries, as they generally last longer and offer better performance.

The LEDs are adjustable using two rotary push-buttons. The first one allows switching between modes and selecting colors. The second one controls brightness. The brightness is so strong that in dark environments you may need to reduce it—to avoid being blinded! 😉

The battery life is typically around one and a half hours, depending on the mode and brightness settings.

The electronic system integrated into the violin body can be updated by the user via USB and a computer. New modes will be made available as they are developed and validated by our technical team. All updates are free and downloadable from our website.

In all pictures, the Prism ii no longer includes LEDs on the shoulder rest mount. These were removed to reduce the instrument’s overall weight and extend battery life.

Shape & Design

The Prism’s design is based on the original shape of the 3Dvarius, like the rest of our electric violins. It was created to be as simple as possible.

After leaving the factory, the electric violin body is manually polished, giving it a smooth feel to the touch. It then undergoes a series of treatments to ensure strength and durability for many years.

The electronic system is enclosed in a custom-made box, in which some transparent parts overlap to project the LED light evenly through the body of the violin, offering a stunning visual effect for the audience.

Made in France

Like all our electric violins, the Prism is entirely designed and manufactured in France—more precisely in the Occitania region, where the 3Dvarius company is based.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I customize my Prism?

Yes, it is possible. Contact us so we can discuss it, or visit our Custom Shop to learn more.

What type of battery should I use?

The Prism requires a 9V battery to power the lights. This battery is not included with the electric violin. We recommend using 9V rechargeable lithium batteries.

Does the battery need to be working for the violin to produce sound?

No, the battery is not required to play the electric violin. It only powers the light system. The sound and lighting systems are completely independent of each other.

I can’t switch between modes / My violin is stuck on a particular mode

First, make sure you are using the correct button to change the mode by pressing it. If that doesn’t work, check your battery’s charge. If it’s too low, it won’t provide enough power to the Prism’s control processor. Remember, just because the lights are on doesn’t mean the internal system has enough energy to process the commands.

Can I create my own light mode?

At the moment, this is not possible.

What is the purpose of the USB port on the back of the Prism?

It is used to update the Prism. No updates have been released yet, but they will be made available through our website.

Can the 9V battery be replaced with an integrated lithium battery?

Current European and international regulations regarding lithium batteries are very strict. Using a lithium battery requires specific certifications and specialized shipping. We could pursue this, but not all of our resellers could comply, meaning they would be unable to sell our instruments. Therefore, we have decided against this option.

I lost the magnetic cover for the battery. How can I get a new one?

We provide customer support for all our instruments. Contact us if you need to replace the lost part.

How long does the battery last?

When using the lights at full intensity, the battery lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Is the bridge tilted, misaligned, or leaning?

Please follow our video tutorial to straighten the bridge safely. Before starting, loosen the strings and apply a small amount of graphite from a pencil under each notch of the bridge. This makes the adjustment easier and helps protect your strings from breaking.

What are the delivery times?

If there is no special mention on the page, it means the electric violin is in stock and ready to ship. Delivery times vary by region: around 3–4 days in Europe, 5–7 days to North America, and more than 7 days for other continents. For custom instruments, please allow additional time for the production of specific parts.

Sound Reactive / Color Reactive mode no longer responds on one string?

Your Prism’s calibration may have been lost when replacing the battery. Press and hold the light intensity control button for more than 5 seconds until the blue-white-red color code appears. Turn the same button while playing the strings to recalibrate responsiveness. Once satisfied, press the same button again to save the calibration.

How do I clean my Prism?

Use a soft microfiber cloth to remove rosin dust and other residues. Do not use chemical products on your instrument, as they may damage the protective varnish.

What strings are used on the Prism? And how can I replace them?

We generally use Thomastik, D’Addario, or Prim strings. All ball-end violin strings are compatible with our electric violins. Check out our tutorial on how to replace your strings and read our reviews on different sets we have tested.

Does the S pickup produce high-quality sound?

Yes. The S pickup features our dual-piezo system placed under the strings, making it highly responsive and powerful enough to eliminate the need for a preamp. The difference from the X pickup lies in the overall configuration and sensitivity of the sensors.

Is there a left-handed version of the Prism?

Our violins are not designed for left-handed players.

Why doesn’t my Prism have LEDs on the shoulder rest?

We previously made a version with LEDs on the shoulder rest. They were removed a few years ago based on violinist feedback to reduce the instrument’s weight. The new Prism (called the Prism ii) no longer includes LEDs on the bottom part.

Alex Lopez 🇪🇸

I ordered a 4-string Prism for my events. Honestly, the LED modes do more than the job — people are always amazed when the lights come on! I use it with a few effects pedals, and it delivers a smooth, pleasant sound. I highly recommend it!

Molly Reed 🇬🇧

I love my Prism!! I mainly perform at private evening events, and I chose the Prism for its LED options — I’m absolutely not disappointed.

Sergio Soler Torrentes 🇲🇽

I own a 5-string Prism that I usually play at weddings. It’s perfect for such events. I pair it with a few small effects pedals to maintain a clean, classical tone.

Lisa Fabre 🇫🇷

I bought a Prism for private events. If you’re looking for an instrument with LEDs, I believe this is currently the best LED electric violin on the market. The sound is excellent, and the lighting modes work perfectly.
